Title: All That I Wanted (Were Things I Had Before)
Pairing: Dom/Billy, hints of assorted others
Rating: PG-13
Summary: The story of two actors who meet while filming the Lord of the Rings in a universe just slightly different from our own (or more succinctly, monaboyd: the reincarnation AU)
Notes:
1. This fic owes a lot to a lot of people, most notably
fiercynn who not only put up with a lot of ridiculous worldbuilding meta but also did the most last-minute beta ever to last-minute.
2. Titles are from various songs about reincarnation, which I had way too much fun with. Full credits at the end.
3. This is entirely a work of fiction. It is also set in an alternate universe; some facts have been changed. No offense is intended nor are these changes meant to insinuate anything about real life.
Warnings: Contains a brief discussion of suicide
Dom still wonders sometimes just who exactly Peter Jackson is and how he accomplished what he did. Not the movies, although they are a work of genius that he will defend until the last breath of this life, but the way he assembled the cast. Walking around the set of Lord of the Rings had been dizzying. It set Dom reeling for the first few days until he adjusted, like stepping off the plane and into the brightest light he'd ever seen. Everyone commented on the improbable number of bonds between castmembers, on the tumult when each person arrived and was recognized at almost every introduction as a bosom friend from a past life.
Dom has always had an unusually strong sense of selves, though, and no one else ever noticed what left him watching Peter out of the corner of his eye—the bonds were all enormously, impossibly old, even when they were thin and the last life shared long ago. At the beginning he would scribble wild speculation in his journal, ideas about cavemen and roaming bands on the African plains.
Soon enough he had other things to think about.
