monaboyd_monthGood morning, good morning; today's my day at the helm of this 'ship, and I'm happy to be turning the wheel. The plan is for probably two spams over the course of the day and fic at some point tonight, so climb aboard, and I hope you enjoy the trip.
Sometimes it's hard to fathom these two have known each other for more than ten years now; harder still to fathom that we've gotten to see them in companionable action for almost that long. What's easy is to think we understand why they're still friends, and to be happy for it and them, too. This run of pictures doesn't make up my list of all time greats--most of you have seen all those far too many times now--but I think they show the joy these two have in each other, and that they sometimes share with us.
Running into a warm dive after getting caught out in the rain, our heroes can't wait to tell us how they're often together, but not like that. It's more like this. Or that over there. Anyway, look at their damp little faces! This was also one of the first times people got to see the Dom and Billy Show, and probably fell in love with these two if they hadn't already.
I simply cannot imagine being Dominic's (or my god, Elijah's) age and working with someone like Ian McKellen. I am ecstatic that Dominic still an emailing fiend with Ian, and this picture is so wonderfully charming--you see there's and respect and play all around all three of them, and Dominic looks pleased and proud as really strong punch. <3
Oh, these silly creatures. That they bonded so easily and well was obviously important to the films, but who could have known what it would have meant to them so many years later? How much do we owe to slapstick comedy and an immediate understanding between these two? A lot. But they owe it to each other even more, and how excellent is that.
Dominic in his glasses adsaklfjdlkfjkjdfska YES PLEASE. And yes, I see Billy's pissy little face of jealousy that we're all enjoying Dominic so much more here, but COME ON THERE'S A REASON FOR THAT. It's really nice to see them in that environment too; the investment and interest every person involved in these films had in so many aspects of them is just really moving to me.
You just know they were both running at the mouth to keep the nerves down before the NZ FOTR premiere. They had to be. Because even then no one could really, really be sure it was all going to work and be so massive, so why not enjoy every second of it they could? Even if it meant chattering nonstop on the way there.
Dominic would tell you that Billy really has no place laughing at Dominic's lapels, not while he's sporting that hair. Actually, I'd tell you that; Dominic would tell you he's nervous as fuck for once, and leaning into Billy is a convenient way to calm down. We should encourage this.
Billy is so gorgeous and determined, and Dominic so slightly unsteady; it's a flip from what we see so often in premiere pictures later. I adore this blurry shot for so many reasons, most of which I've outlined too many times before, so. Moving on. After I point out Miss Hannah W. back there, or her adorable doppelganger. :)
Chatting it up in those awesome suits, and the first piece of evidence in the file of Billy sitting as if his junk depended on maximum if still clothed exposure. As I've also before, office hours were clearly open. Bless, Boyd, really.
Dominic is clearly holding on to Billy to protect him from me wanting to set fire to that sweater. But anyway. The point is that they're very sweet here, and it's still so new, and they're still feeling their way (pun not intended at all, for once, omg).
One of the first really OTP shots ever. Dominic's affection for Billy is all over that body language, and Billy's relaxed under it; they're no challenge or returned tease in his stance or expression, he's just there and happy to be, and it's ... IT'S CHINHANDS-PROVOKING, OKAY? Okay.
Incredible doofuses (doofi?) just barely managing to keep from giggling their own clothes off in the MTV studios. Parts of that whole thing are hard to watch because of the cringing usual interview nonsense—compare it with how smooth and blasé they all were during the ROTK TRL appearance—but Dominic and Billy are charming in their own weird and lovely way. :)
Who are my favourite layabouts, who? YES, YOU ARE.
The Dom and Billy Show sometimes closes the curtains around itself, but other times it forgets to do so, and this is what we get. I could break a thesaurus in two looking for more ways to say Look at that affection; look at that attention and pleasure with each other's company. But I won't. Instead I will look at this a little more and be honestly, truly happy they know each other, because oh, where the thoughts can go just from this picture. <3
Surely you must have been expecting this. :D I'm so pleased they're wearing boots; it could have gotten very messy where my heart exploded at their feet.
Completely ridiculous and ridiculously completing each other. It's hard to find any one photo from this night where they both actually look pleased to be alive, much less in the whirl of an Oscar night, but that's okay; Billy had the illness excuse, and Dominic makes irritable conceit look adorable, whether he likes it or not. *pets his head* I hardly ever spam this picture, but I'm so happy it exists, I can't even tell you.
Oh, my little mobsters, I adore them. Especially at this point of the night, when Billy suave little swagger of earlier has just about vanished and Dominic's the one keeping them upright. Delicious. <3
Billy can be a little possessive in the oddest times. And the best part of it is that Dominic, like, doesn't even blink. He's like, Yes, that's my bare skin, and I am perfectly with you getting touchy-touchy on or near it; in fact I rather expect it and may be insulted if you don't. What an accommodating young man.
They're just so ... normal here; even with Dominic's interesting jacket, they might be two random gits who just got off work and stumbled into a party for the free drink (looking at you there especially, Boyd; remember, it's CANON). Mind you, if they were busted doing just that, odds are one or both of them would charm the pants off the security staff and they'd end up being able to steal at least one more bottle apiece before they tripped back out into Leicester Square. (Not that I, uh. have experience doing any of these things.)
You have to wonder how long it took before New Line realized that while The Billy and Dom Show is a wonderful, wonderful thing, these two probably need to be separated once in a while lest they cause mass distracted destruction. I love Billy's face here, and in the actual interview I love Dominic's cackle, and the way he just curls up and back out of that chair, just barely disguising how easy it would be for him to just, like, leap into Billy's lap and be done with it. NOT THAT ANY OF US IS STOPPING YOU, DOMINIC.
OH MY GOD MY HEART. And bits. I MEAN HEART. First of all, Billy is ... okay, climbable is the word I want to use, and I can't find reason to qualify or apologize for it. And Dominic is about as peachy and rounded in the face as he ever got in Los Angeles (bar the, well, boozily assisted sort of roundness, let's say, hee), and I think it's quite, quite fetching. They're really not sure what's earned them this attention--it's still too early for it, really--but they're happy to have it.
Drink up, OTP hearties, yo ho. Billy was a shuffling half-drunk piece of work that day, and while Dominic was snuffling and suffering a bit, they were both clearly more awesome than anyone else in the room, except maybe McKellen, who'd be gracious enough to pretend to disagree, I think. There's something so silly and sweet about this picture, and it's always been one of my favourites. <3
Full (and REALLY OBVIOUS) disclosure one: I played with this in Photoshop like whoa, because a) my god, was there ever the world's most ridiculous and unprofessional "professional" watermark, and b) a person with an astonishingly bushy ponytail was standing behind Dominic, and in the picture it made Dominic appear to have a mullet. There are some things I refuse to even deal with, and that is one of them. ANYWAY. How darling are they, seriously? This was the first time Dominic surprised Billy at a con, but of course not the last. They're so pleased to see each other, and wow, if we could just take a moment to appreciate Billy in a white shirt, a wardrobe event that needs to happen MUCH MORE OFTEN, BOYD.
How fucking brilliant and exciting did this have to be for them, to be in that studio and just breathe that air and know they were in the same place where some of their favourite music of all time had been created? They're bursting, aren't they. It's so adorable to see.
Dominic had probably perfected the art of asking for it long before this interview was taped, but it's awesome that he gave us all the opportunity to see it, too. :D
When you look in the dictionary under fanservice, this is what you'll find, and thank god for it. That Dominic pulled this off wasn't any kind of surprise, but Billy's thundering little glare in return is perfection; he's doing and showing us exactly what Dominic wants him to do, and that's a gift, both to us as OTP-happy fen and to themselves--each of them has mentioned that the other was always willing to take whatever improvisational road the first started down, and that there was a safety and comfort in that, and this, people, this is one of the best examples I can imagine of that.
Also, it's, you know, hot.

Oh, those shiny black suits. What could they have possibly been thinking wearing them in NZ summertime? Never mind; they look excellent and are clearly having a fabulous time, and who can't support that. :)
I spam another picture from New York ROTK a lot, the one of Dominic turned profile and looking at and listening intently to Billy. This one I almost enjoy more than that utterly beautiful picture, because here they're on more equal ground, and the physical closeness is a kind and comfortable one, one you get with friends--beyond that, one you get with people you trust. This isn't a the-camera's-aimed-at-us-now-work-it stance they're sharing; this is curious friendship, attention shared. And it's lovely, point blank.
Full disclosure two: I am not particularly fond of this picture (though I do love another taken the same day, one we'll cover near the end of this). They both look like wrecks, and I find Billy's mugging unnecessary and tiresome. But the point of the picture I think is that they're still laughing--they're still finding reason and energy to have themselves some fun, even when it's got to be pulled from somewhere deep. Yes, yes, reading into things. It's sort of what I do. :)
In context, I'm sure this would be slightly less delightful, but here, out of context, it's wonderful and warm in a way you rarely get to see in pictures of the two of them; Billy's guard is hardly ever this sweetly down.
As you know, I'm not opposed to the OTP sharing its joy with others, especially Elijah, and this premiere was full of that joy and then some. How lovely are they, seriously? Unspeakably is the word that jumps to mind, though god knows I've spoken a lot about Tokyo ROTK. :)
What happened here after the Diesel event with that hideous child from that hideous Punk'd show doesn't deserve more than a sneer, but look at them before any of that happened: they're fuzzy around the edges and look as if they been awake no more than two hours between them, and it so. works.
I've spent thousands and thousands of words on this night in the six years since it happened, so I will keep it relatively short here: Dominic's "Supersonic" attack on the stage was like the first and second shots you take as the night begins--it got one's blood rushing a little and one's shoulders set back, and one felt as if one could take on the world. And then Billy came along, after the first and second thrilling waves of appreciation for Dom&Elijah and cohorts, and then Peter and the production people, and acted as one's last drink before turning in--enough of a buzz to make one think one wants more, but warming, too, in a way that tells one it's time to go home, while it still feels this lovely and perfect and true. I've really run out of ways to make how this night felt make any sense, so you're stuck with the nonsensical, sorry. *open hands* Anyway, even Dominic knew, as this picture shows. Dominic understood, and so can we.
My fic-writer and just straight fangirling heart call this a night that could have changed things in a big way for Billy; getting the reaction he did just rambling along onstage with the Young Dubliners had to have made for a push in the direction of Beecake, even if it was a small one. It makes me happy too to know Dominic was there--among other friends, yes, but there--and that he clearly enjoyed the hell out of himself, and that in this picture and others, there's a sense of shared pride and, yes, I will go ahead and say it--joy. They're both utterly hot messes here, but they're also beautiful.
The look on Billy's face here is just wonderful—it's like an exhale, isn't it? Not that the man doesn't know how to make his own fun at a con, but that one was a zoo, and to see a face you know and like that well in the midst of all that ... this is one of those pictures that really is worth a thousand words, but lucky for you, I'm going to wind things up here. :)
This picture cracks me up, mostly because Dominic so thoroughly unself-conscious in a setting where he wasn't expected but is obviously warmly welcome anyway. Billy's pretty deliriously happy, and while we shouldn't go around repeating the filthy joy that was flying out of their mouths that night, it's fun to think about.
Timewise, this belongs with the Tokyo pictures, but because we never got to see it till so much later, let's look at it here. Dominic's playing to the crowd and his own sense of fun by calling it Must Be Love, but we can go along with it, can't we? They must have both been so tired by this point, nearing the very end of the premieres and accompanying media nonsense they'd work as a team for a while, but Dominic's still vibrating with happiness at getting to spend that at play too, with his BFF. I don't know about you, but I'm as grateful he shared this picture as I am that he shared the others he took of Billy (and the Penrith firepit one, sigh)--it's not arty, it's not overprocessed or pretty; it's just them, and it's maybe more lovely for that.
I'm afraid I don't have anything intelligent or descriptive to say here; I'm far too busy catching just enough breath to make NNNGH UNFF UNFF noises in the general direction of the screen. I have this little thing for suits, see.
I have slightly less of a thing for Billy and Dominic being ridiculously hammy, even when they're taking the piss out of themselves, but I have to say, wasn't it absolutely wonderful to see them at an event together after so long? I didn't care how much they mugged for the cameras; I was occupied squeaking. These pictures did a world of OTP-related good, at least in my head; maybe in yours, too. We're so lucky they're still close, when surely each of them--being human, after all--has had opportunity to give reasons more than once not to be. We're so. bloody. lucky.
Which is not to say they sometimes can't quite get in sync for the cameras, hee. I like the off-kilter thing happening here--they both know what they're supposed to be doing, but it's all a little mad and happy and ... well, they'll get there.
And when they do, they knock our socks off. There are more recent pictures of the two of them, certainly, but they are not quite so shimmering with joy, so I will seal this one up now, with this, and look forward to what I know will be so very many more photos of Billy and Dominic, and so very many opportunities to enjoy them, as actors, as people, as friends to each other, as everything and anything they want to be and share with us. Because they're worth it.

I'm afraid I don't have anything intelligent or descriptive to say here; I'm far too busy catching just enough breath to make NNNGH UNFF UNFF noises in the general direction of the screen. I have this little thing for suits, see.
I have slightly less of a thing for Billy and Dominic being ridiculously hammy, even when they're taking the piss out of themselves, but I have to say, wasn't it absolutely wonderful to see them at an event together after so long? I didn't care how much they mugged for the cameras; I was occupied squeaking. These pictures did a world of OTP-related good, at least in my head; maybe in yours, too. We're so lucky they're still close, when surely each of them--being human, after all--has had opportunity to give reasons more than once not to be. We're so. bloody. lucky.
Which is not to say they sometimes can't quite get in sync for the cameras, hee. I like the off-kilter thing happening here--they both know what they're supposed to be doing, but it's all a little mad and happy and ... well, they'll get there.
And when they do, they knock our socks off. There are more recent pictures of the two of them, certainly, but they are not quite so shimmering with joy, so I will seal this one up now, with this, and look forward to what I know will be so very many more photos of Billy and Dominic, and so very many opportunities to enjoy them, as actors, as people, as friends to each other, as everything and anything they want to be and share with us. Because they're worth it.
And also because they're, you know, hot. <3

Yes, these pictures have been around for awhile now, but they will never EVER get boring to me!! The closeness and love that they share can only be shared with those that truly 'Get' you and these two totally 'get' each other and to know just about everything about another person and you still want to build your world around them...makes these two extra extra special just 'like that'!!
