and now for a dressing down.
May. 6th, 2009 03:09 pmAs much as I enjoy Billy and Dominic dressed up—and oh, how I do—I have not yet come to full and complete power, and so they more often than not leave their respective dwellings dressed like they've fallen drunk into a thrift shop and then run themselves over with tractors. I am not subjecting either myself or you to that level of horror here—because I care, see—but rather, instead, I'm just having a nice coo over the dressed-down possibilities.

Old school domestic bliss. You know you love it, at least enough to get past Dominic's sunglasses.

Oh, DEAR. Those wigs. Still, I can't resist a jersey on Dominic or a button-down on Billy. Especially the button-down on Billy. Even in some of the fight rehearsals, he was wearing one. This meets with my approval on so many levels. I mean, every girl's crazy 'bout a sharp dressed man, or so ZZ Top tells us, but this girl's crazy about a slightly fuzzy down-dressed man, too.

Nyuk nyuk nyuk. Holy sticks, so young. And though this was part of the Billy and Dom Show, how many times do you suppose Billy was tempted to follow through on immobilizing this kid? Seriously.

Pretty much Fellowship era promo in a nutshell, isn't it? Billy can't be much more blank-faced relaxed, and Dominic's an adorable, tightly-coiled animal. And they're both dressed comfortable as hell, and for once I can deal with that jacket on Billy because here it looks right.

If I were in my LJ, I'd be making all kinds of WHY GOD WHY noises, but for the sake of today's joy, I'll just say n'awww instead and focus on Dominic, who looks wonderful. BUT WHY GOD WHY. /o\

ALRIGHT ALREADY, YOU BOTH LOOK CUTE. Can we move on now?

Their FACES. And oh, that day. They're humid and fussy and silly and perfect, and they still look here like the working actor scrabblers they were and on rare occasion still are. <3

Yes, that horrifying shirt of Billy's is under the jacket, I know, but as long as the horror's contained, we can all live with it, right? And at least it's not either of those disgusting baseball jackets. \o/ Anyway, can you imagine being in their position, watching some of the last of principal filming. Their expressions say so much. And their hair! They rarely have almost the exact same hair ... thing happening, so I find this weirdly compelling.

I don't find Dominic's shirt compelling, weirdly or not, but nnngh Billy's shirt, and even Dominic looks clearly ENTRANCED by it. Smart guy.

One of the most Billy/Dominic pictures of all that Billy-and-Dominic pictures out there. This is the visual representation of Dominic's statement that there's no one else in the room. Pictures like this are why there is such a thing as "monaboyd"; pictures like this are a huge reason we're here. And wow, find me a shot from this era where they're more publicly comfortable.

I mean yes, this is wonderful, but not quite as intimately lovely. The two shots combined, however? *small explosion*

Interview Billy and Dominic! By this point they were way too comfortable with the promotion, bored enough to muck with reporters but also just professional enough to keep their jobs. They're both vastly more intelligent than anyone gives them credit, especially Dominic, I think, and yet they're both perfectly willing to play fools if only to amuse the fuck out of each other. <3

I mean, really.

And even when they are clearly bored, they're still lovely, and still clearly MFEO on a few different levels. Lucky, lucky us that we have so much documentation of this. :D Also, please note: I actually like Dominic's jacket. Alert the media.

OH YOU RIDICULOUS CREATURES. ♥

I'm feeling the need for some well-loved articles of clothing. And to point out once again that Dominic's wearing Billy's watch. I leave it to you to imagine what of Dominic's Billy might have taken in trade and again remind you that it's not likely to have been pants.

THEY BOTH APPRECIATE THE THOUGHT, THOUGH.

One of my very favourite pictures with Dominic and Billy in it, if not strictly a Billy-and-Dominic photo. The guy over there in the dark smoking has a lot to do with it, yes. But it's more evidence of Dominic's ability to rock wardrobe choices that would cause other people to really question their own sanity, and for that alone it deserves showing again. The guy smoking really sells it, though, as does the whole air of comfort they all showed that night. Comfort and celebration, mmm. No cast has ever done it better, and frankly, no cast ever will. I like to think that Billy and Dominic solidified the cast in some way, too, providing a lazy little foundation of friendship that expanded for everyone little by little, but remained—and remains—solid unto itself.
WOW, THAT MADE NO SENSE AT ALL.

See, even Dominic's confused. Billy's certain he'll get it after some more coffee.

City mice turned country mice, how lovely is that? There's been no better inspiration for me as a writer than Penrith, and if we're talking about comfort with each other, this is an excellent place to go as well. In fact, let's go some more.

Dominic looks phenomenally uncomfortable with that gun, and understandably so, but incredibly comfortable with everything else. He and Billy are just about absorbed into the setting, and you can feel the scratch and wooliness of all the fabric, can't you? And then there's Elijah. :) Well, you know, he's lovely, too, in a totally different way. Just for today, though, mmm, OTP.

So delightful I almost don't even see Dominic's hat anymore. :D

This is just glorious, and anything I say will just diminish it. Just enjoy it with me. *chinhands*

A little sad, a little soft, but still wonderful. This looked like such a melancholy rollercoaster day, and not just because of the rain, but in the end they're still there, you know? It's still them. <3

Dominic: I can't believe she hasn't lit into you yet about that shirt.
Billy: OH WELL FUCKING DONE, DOM.
Laura: No, no, today we celebrate. Today there are no catflaps.
Dominic: Dammit.

How sweaty-scuzzy-perfect are they, seriously? What a fantastic night that was, and what it must have meant to choices they both made later. The mind reels, and reels happily.

I am a sucker for pictures of Billy at half-mast like this, but Dominic also looks comfy and fun and certainly more stable at this point in the evening. :D Someday I'll forgive them both for their fondness for Corona, I'm sure. BUT IT IS NOT THIS DAY.

SPEAKING OF THE UNFORGIVABLE. @_______@ It's a good thing they're so lovely, isn't it. Lovely and baked like a pan of cupcakes, good god. <3

There aren't many professional pictures from before this event started (and therefore while everyone was still mostly upright), so I really treasure this one. Billy and Dominic pretty much perfected slouchy glory that night. I approve.

Mmmmmm. See?

This is not so much slouchy glory as slouchy we've-had-enough, and I also approve. And I love how much Dominic works scarves, I so do.

And then there's ten steps beyond slouchy right into not giving two shits, and yet they STILL somehow make it at least entertaining and yeah, a little tiny bit hot, too, I have to say. I HATE TO SAY IT, but I have to say.

This could have gone so wrong and yet it didn't! They're wonderful, just adorable and just right. <333

I MEAN REALLY. Also, please see Exhibit B in Case # No One Else in the Room.

Please see Exhibit B in Case # Billy Should Always Wear Button-Down Shirts. Pictures like this really do generally give me the heaves, but I can't deny the appeal of this particular one; it must be so difficult to care and not care, to get that balance right of having a private life and friendship and still go through things like this with relative grace. And they so do.

They really, really do. Lucky, lucky us. ♥

Date: 2009-05-06 07:58 pm (UTC)The Diesel shot is my favorite. But I have to say I am NOT a fan of dirty jeans - there's slouchy, and even grungy in a good way. But dirty only says, "get thee to thy closest laundry".
Isn't is remarkable that Dom can make a weird checked shirt look good?
*smacks lips*
Thanks!

Thank you!

I like that Elijah got in there sneakily.
